Group Study Rooms
There are group study rooms on the 1st, 5th and 6th floors of the Valley Library. The 6th floor is reserved for quiet study. The Library's Food and Drink Policy is valid for all rooms: no food is allowed, and drinks must be in spill-proof containers.
Group study rooms are available for a 3-hour loan period to OSU students, faculty, and staff on a reservation basis. Rooms may be reserved up to 2 weeks in advance. Study rooms that have not been reserved will be available for immediate use.
Key cards for study rooms are checked out at Circulation. Study rooms do not renew, and key cards not returned on time are subject to late charges: $5 for the first half hour and $10 for each additional hour (or part of an hour).
Library materials used in study rooms should be returned to reshelving areas after use, unless the items have been checked out.
3 Hour Group Study Room Policies
- 3-hour group study rooms do not renew.
- One advance reservation per person per day is allowed. Additional reservations will be canceled. Individuals or groups may not make a reservation in an adjacent time slot to extend room use beyond 3 hours. This would be considered abuse of policy. Loss of privileges may result.
- Patrons may check out study rooms at other times in the same day, if not all study rooms are reserved.
- Study rooms may be reserved 14 days in advance. Reservations made beyond that time frame will be canceled.
- Reservations will be held for 15 minutes beyond the reserved time, after which they will be made available to other patrons.
- Study room reservations are confidential and may not be shared or viewed by others.
- The reserved room may only be checked out to the person who placed the reservation. An OSU ID or other valid photo ID is required for checkout.
- The library is not responsible for personal property left in a study room. If a patron exits a study room and leaves personal property, the library may remove the personal items to accommodate use of the room.
- Patrons who occupy a study room beyond the 3-hour reservation may be asked to leave to accommodate the next reservation. The library may ask any occupant to vacate a study room, if complaints are received.
- Failure to vacate a study room when requested by library staff may result in loss of the privilege to check out study rooms, a referral to OSU's Office of Student Conduct, or to campus security.
How to Reserve a 3 Hour Study Room
Group study rooms may be reserved 1-14 days in advance. They are available to OSU students, faculty, and staff for a 3-hour period, and do not renew. Reservations are made through the library catalog:
Pick up the keycard for your study room at the Circulation desk. The keycard can only be checked out to the person who makes the reservation. OSU ID is required for checkout.
The keycards activate the lock on the study room door; wave the keycard in front of the lock and turn the door handle when the green light is on. Study rooms that have not been reserved in advance will be available for last-minute reservation at the circulation desk. To ensure availability, reserve early!
