Group Study Room Reservations

The Valley Library has group study rooms located on first, fifth, and sixth floor. The sixth floor is reserved for quiet study. The Library´s Food and Drink Policy is valid for all rooms - no food is allowed; drinks are allowed in non-spill, reusable containers, only.

Group study rooms are available for a three hour loan period to OSU students, faculty or staff on a reservation basis. Rooms may be reserved from one day to two weeks in advance. Study rooms that have not been reserved will be available for immediate reservation.

Key cards for study rooms are checked out at Circulation. Study rooms do not renew. Key cards not returned on time are subject to late fines. Late fines for study rooms as of July 1, 2006 are $5.00 for the first ½ hour and $10.00 for each additional hour. Library materials used in study rooms should be returned to reshelving areas after use.

Regulations

  1. Only one advance reservation is allowed per person per day. Patrons may check out study rooms at other times in the same day, if all rooms are not reserved. Study rooms that have not been reserved will be available for last-minute reservations.
  2. Circulation will hold study rooms for 15 minutes beyond the reserved time, after which the study room will be made available to other patrons.
  3. The reserved room may only be checked out to the person placing the request. Presentation of an OSU ID card is required for check-out.
  4. If a patron checks out a study room late, the due date will be adjusted to avoid a conflict with the next reservation time.
  5. The schedule of study room reservations is confidential and may be viewed by staff only.
  6. Patrons keeping study rooms more than five minutes past the time the key card is due will be asked by staff to relinquish the study room, when the next patron is waiting. If the study room is empty, a new key card will be activated. Patrons may need to check in with the Circulation desk to retrieve personal items left in a study room.
  7. A refusal to relinquish the key card when overdue can result in the loss of the privilege to check out study rooms. Any patron who creates an incident when asked to relinquish a study room will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct and be blocked from checking out a study room for three months. Patrons can appeal a block to check-out privileges through the normal appeal process.
  8. During non-peak periods, including intersession and summer term, study rooms may be available for an additional three-hour check-out period, when three or more other study rooms are available.
  9. The library is not responsible for any personal belongings left in the rooms.

Research Study Rooms

Research study rooms are available for a 90-day loan period to faculty and doctorate students who have completed their oral exams or will be taking their preliminary oral examination within six months. Doctoral students must present a letter on letterhead from their department advisor confirming their scheduled exam when requesting a hold for a research study room at Circulation. These rooms may be shared by patrons. Key cards are checked out at Circulation and holds may be placed at Circulation.

Regulations

  1. All library materials kept in the rooms must be checked out at Circulation. The library reserves the right to inspect rooms at any time and will remove library materials that have not been checked out.
  2. Food may not be kept in a study room. Food items may be disposed of, if found.
  3. If violations to study room regulations are observed, the patron will be notified. If violations are severe; the room privilege may be revoked.
  4. Floors are cleaned on a regular basis, please recycle your paper and dispose of your trash.
  5. The library is not responsible for any personal belongings left in the rooms.
  6. Doors, walls and windows are to be kept clean and free of any covering, postings or art work.
  7. Data and/or voice communications in the research rooms may be activated by contacting Telecommunications Customer Service at 713-3444; associated costs are the borrower´s responsibility. Contact the Technical Assistance Desk for computer configuration details.
  8. Research study room usage is monitored on a regular basis. Less than eight uses per month will result in reassignment of the research study room.
