Multimedia Listing (VHS, DVDs, and Audiotapes)
Circulation houses most of the library's multimedia collection. The titles may be checked out at the Circulation desk on the 2nd floor. You may search for titles in the library catalog, the multimedia listing or media browsing area (see below).
The checkout period is one week. Faculty may place course materials and videos on reserve for classroom use.
VCR/DVD players and monitors are available for use on the 2nd floor (map). There is also a DVD player that only plays region 2 (European) DVDs. Headphones are attached to all players. Most PCs in the Learning Commons have DVD players. A multi-format VCR (NTSC, PAL, SECAM), group video viewing, slide projector and 16mm film projector are available in the preview room on the 2nd floor. The preview room may be checked out at Circulation for 3-hour periods. Remote controls are also available for checkout.
Media Browse Area - located in the Newspaper area on the second floor is the Media Browse collection. Here you may browse through media cards with media cover information, choose selections you would like to view, and take the media card to Circulation for check out if available. Some of the media is on course reserve so is limited to an hourly check out period. Currently language, literature, music, motion pictures and performing arts is represented but the collection is continually growing and will eventually represent the library's entire collection of CD's, VHS and DVD's.
Other multimedia collections exist in Government Documents, Special Collections, and Guin Library and may also be searched using the library catalog. Multimedia from these departments are not included in the multimedia listing.
Some library books have computer disks (3½ floppy) or compact discs which accompany them. Some discs are located inside our library books; others are at the Circulation desk (check inside back cover for stamped note) and can be checked out for the same period as the book. To check out reference-designated discs, you need special permission from a reference librarian. PC floppy disks are recopied upon return.
The multimedia listing descriptions are typically taken from video/DVD jackets. The Library's use of these descriptions, etc. does not imply endorsement or agreement. We have opted to use them to enrich the discovery and identification of useful resources.
