Russian Language Class, ca. 1943. Dean of Science Francois Gilfillan introduced Russian language study to Oregon State College's foreign languages curriculum in the early 1940s and taught it as part of the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) curriculum during World War II. Other languages taught in the ASTP program included Chinese, Portugese, Spanish, French, and German.[OSU Archives #935]
