Local area network (LAN)
Two or more personal computers or workstations, usually in a common office area, physically linked together by a common file server.
Lateral file
Filing equipment that stores file folders in a side-to-side orientation rather than in a front-to-back manner like a vertical file. Some lateral filing units have a mechanism which permits the file containing section to be pulled out of the cabinet for top-tab filing, others that do not have this mechanism require side-tab filing, much like shelf-file units.
