Honors Program Records (RG 96)1965-1991 Scope and Content NoteOrganized into 8 series. Records include administrative and director files, annual letters to President, committee minutes and reports, and lists of honors graduates. Historical NoteHonors work began in the School of Science in 1959. A combined program from that school and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences was initiated in 1964 and led to establishment in 1967 of a university-wide Honors Program. The program offered enriched educational opportunities to students of superior scholastic ability. In addition to participation in honors colloquia and seminars, students were required to complete a Senior Honors Thesis. The Honors Program was terminated at the end of the 1990-91 academic year due to budget constraints. A new Honors College was established for fall 1995.
