Scope and Content Note

Organized into 8 series. Records include administrative and director files, annual letters to President, committee minutes and reports, and lists of honors graduates.

Historical Note

Honors work began in the School of Science in 1959. A combined program from that school and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences was initiated in 1964 and led to establishment in 1967 of a university-wide Honors Program. The program offered enriched educational opportunities to students of superior scholastic ability. In addition to participation in honors colloquia and seminars, students were required to complete a Senior Honors Thesis. The Honors Program was terminated at the end of the 1990-91 academic year due to budget constraints. A new Honors College was established for fall 1995.
