Scope and Content Note
The Art Lowe Photograph Collection consists of photographic
prints collected by Arthur Lowe. It includes images of Oregon
State College faculty and students; campus buildings; student
activities and athletics; and Oregon agriculture. Of especial
note are a panoramic photograph (3.5 x 11.75 in) taken in about
1915 of the Dairy Building (now Social Science), Alpha Hall,
Shepard Hall, and the Mines Building (now Batcheller Hall); a
1903 portrait photograph of Claude Buchanan in his Oregon
Agricultural College cadet uniform taken by Gardner; and images
of Knute Rockne, the Horticultural Show, Bexell Hall soon after
construction, and construction (or demolition) of the Bell Field
grandstand.
Many of the images were taken by Hise Studio of Corvallis,
Oregon.
Biographical Note
Alumnus Arthur Livingston (Art) Lowe of Corvallis attended Oregon State Agricultural College in the early to mid-1930s and graduated in 1936 with a bachelor's degree in secretarial science. He was Business Manager of the Corvallis Gazette-Times for many years.
Provenance
These materials were given to J. Kenneth Munford who donated them to the OSU Archives in 1995. Photographs collected by Lowe pertaining to Corvallis and Benton County were donated to the Benton County Historical Museum in Philomath, Oregon.
