Scope and Content Note

This group consists of films of Oregon State University intercollegiate athletic events. Most of the films were made by Athletic Department staff; a few were produced by Sportvision, Inc. The majority of the films are of football games from the period 1936-1955; there are also films of track and field meets and a basketball game and a video production about the history of athletics at OSU. Films of note include the 1942 Rose Bowl (P31:50), the 1949 Pineapple Bowl (P31:90), the 1939 trip to Hawaii (P31:159); and the 1955 NCAA Western Regional Playoff basketball game between OSC and the University of San Francisco (P31:170).

Forms

This group includes primarily 16-mm b/w safety-base films and a few 16- mm color films. For several of the films, there are videotape duplicates also included; these are noted on the inventory. All of the videotapes are VHS format except for one 3/4" (U-matic) tape (P31:7).

Organization and Arrangement

All of the films and videotapes have been assigned individual numbers (P31:1-190). In some cases, there are several reels of film of the same athletic event that have been assigned the same number.

Related Materials

Films and videotapes of intercollegiate athletic events from the 1960s through 1980s are available in the News and Communications (P 57) group and from the 1920s in the Continuing Higher Education (P 48) group. Intercollegiate Athletics retains films and videotapes of more recent games and events.
