Carl L. Anderson, ca. 1960. Anderson, Professor of Hygiene and Health Education, developed a General Hygiene course that was taught by interinstitutional television from 1959 through the mid-1960s. Motion picture films of lectures were broadcast throughout Oregon via KOAC-TV. A selection of those films are part of the Archives' holdings (P 119). [OSU Archives P57:4309.] Motion Picture Films and VideotapesThese materials include about 3,600 motion picture film reels or videotapes of final productions and unedited footage of intercollegiate athletics, lectures, musical performances, and other special events at the University. All final productions prepared by the Extension Service, Alumni Office, the University's Communications Offices and other units are retained by the Archives. A variety of formats are represented, but the majority of the films are 16-mm black-and-white prints and most of the videotapes are VHS-format and 3/4" cassettes. Films and videotapes in the Archives holdings are grouped together by office of origin, donor, subject, or producer. Each group has been assigned a number -- the same group number as still photographs from that office or donor. Most of the films and videotapes have also been assigned individual item numbers. For example: "P17:4 (film)" indicates a motion picture film with the item number "4" from P Group 17 (Alumni Relations). Motion picture films and videotapes that are part of Manuscript Collections are not assigned a group number but are referred to by the title of the Collection, such as the William L. Finley Films. Detailed inventories are available for all the films and videotapes in the Archives holdings. In addition, you can do an electronic search to search the Motion Picture Films and Video Tapes Collections. The search will give you a listing of Finding Aids (collection descriptions, series outlines, inventories) relevant to the subject requested. Click on a link, and then do a search on that page. In Netscape, click on the "Edit" menu and then to "Find" in the pull-down menu; you will again need to type in the subject you are searching. Click on "Find Next," the cursor will stop at your subject if it is found in the document.
