This accession consists of filmed productions and videotaped recordings generated by Extension and Experiment Station Communications. Numbering 73 videotapes and 2 DVDs in total, a little over half of this transfer is made up of recordings documenting Extension and Extended Education teleconferences and monthly workshops. One of the teleconferences is a series of public issue education brown bags. Also found are recordings of forums on political measures and financial management. The videotapes and DVDs in this accession that were produced for public distribution cover a range of topics: waste prevention in the workplace, copyright issues in education, improvement of riparian landscapes, Christmas tree cultivation, and the operation of boilers.

This accession consists of materials collected by alumnus David Parsons that pertain to the installation of an operational clock in the tower of Benton Hall. Documenting Parsons' own role in coordinating the donation of the clock to OSU, the items in this transfer include: business cards, correspondence, newspaper clippings, notes, speech transcripts of the clock installation dedication ceremony, and a photograph of the Portland building where the clock mechanism operated before the Northwest Natural Gas Co. removed and sent it to OSU.

This accession is made up of materials documenting the work of Extension Family Life Specialist Roberta Anderson and includes conference papers, correspondence, newsletters, newspaper clippings, publications, and speeches. Primarily consisting of publications written by Anderson for use as lesson plans and training materials by Extension family life and 4-H project leaders, this transfer also includes articles by Anderson for newsletters and reprints of journal articles.The topics addressed in these publications include: the generation gap, child guidance techniques, sex education, the changing roles of women, widowhood, and family communication. Consisting mostly of thank you letters and notes of congratulations, the correspondence relates to presentations given by Anderson and publications she authored. Instructional bulletins developed by Anderson for a federal extension program oriented toward low income families were also found in this transfer.

Filling the post of Family Life Specialist with Home Economics Extension in 1959, Roberta Frasier Anderson trained Extension and 4-H educators and project leaders in the public instruction of family and child development topics. Her work included the writing of guides and publications for this training curriculum. Before arriving at OSU, Anderson served as chair of the Child Development Department at Washington State University. She has also done family couseling and child welfare work. She retired from OSU in 1974.

This accession is made up of materials collected and generated by U.S. Forest Service Historian Gerald W. Williams that reflect his research and publication of articles and books about the history of the U.S. Forest Service, John Waldo and the preservation of wilderness in Oregon, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and name origins of places in the McKenzie River region of Oregon. With about one-half of this transfer consisting of photographs, this accession also includes correspondence, CDs, certificates, employment records, lithographic prints, publications, maps, films and videotapes, road signage, posters, oral history collections, sound recordings, a doctorate, and a scrapbook. Exisitng in a variety of formats and numbering about 24000 images in total, the photographs depict U.S. Force Service national parks, Force Service staff, Civilian Conservation Corps camps, logging operations in the Pacific Northwest, Native Americans, the U.S. Army Spruce Production Division, and general scenic shots of Oregon and Washington natural landscapes. The bulk of the publications and paper-based materials in this transfer were collected by Williams as a part of his research on Forest Service history, the work of Gifford Pinchot, the McKenzie River region, land preservation in Oregon, and the development of the Smoky the Bear educational campaign.

A graduate of Southern Oregon University, Gerald Williams began his career with the Forest Service in 1979 as Sociologist for the Umpqua National Forest, and later, the Willamette National Forest as well. In this position, Williams designed and implemented a regional and national history program for the Forest Service. Continuing the development of this program in his next position as Regional Sociologist for the Forest Service in Portland, Williams was appointed as National Historian for the Forest Service in 1998. In addition to the official centennial history of the Forest Service, Williams has written over 75 books, articles, and conference papers exploring a variety of historical topics such the Native American use of fire in the environment, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and the U.S. Army Spruce Production Division during World War I. Williams retired from the Forest Service in 2005.

This accession is made up of articles, editorials, Extension bulletins, and reports written by OSU Extension Forestry Specialist Charles R. Ross. Primarily relating to forest resources, cultivation, and harvesting, the topics addressed in Ross' writings also address population growth, the geography and culture of the South Appalachian Mountains, timber marketing, and land conservation. The reports were written by Ross as Extension Forester and Regional Consultant for the American Forestry Association and relate to forest resources in Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Missouri. Some of these reports contain photographs.The editorials were published in a number of local and national newspapers and magazines. Covering various social, environmental, and political topics, the editorials consist of both the original typewritten transcripts and the clipped newspaper articles. Clippings of columns Ross wrote as an Assistant U.S. Forest Service Ranger in Georgia were also found in this transfer. Included in this accession are three notebooks used by Ross as an Extension agent in Alabama to record information on forest acreage on private lands, people involved in harvesting of trees, and milling operations.

Coming to Oregon State College in 1946 to fill the post of Farm Forestry Specialist for the Extension Service, Charles Ross had worked as an Extension Forester in South Carolina and Alabama before moving to Oregon. In addition to authoring the popular Extension publication "Trees to Know in Oregon," Ross worked extensively with youth in 4-H programs. An avid conservationist, Ross helped to preserve Corvallis-area natural spaces for use as public parks. These parks include Fitton Green and Bald Hill. Awarded emeritus status in 1970, Ross died in 2006.

Henderson, Robert W., Photographs (P 98)

This accession is an addition to the Robert W. Henderson Photographic Collection of images taken by alumnus and Agricultural Experiment Station Assistant Director Henderson. Numbering about 350 images in total (138 prints, 170 negatives, and 42 slides), the photographs document plant research, Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority events, Triad Club meetings, a local coin collector club meeting, a music rehearsal at LaSells Stewart Center, the 1968 graduation commencement, and OSU Marching Band formations at a football game. Also included in this transfer is a photo album of prints depicting aerial and ground shots of campus, agricultural research, the landscape around the greater Corvallis region, Oregon coastal scenes, and students engaged in study. Many of these images were numbered by Henderson and inventoried in a master index maintained by him. Copies of this index can be found in an earlier accession of images for P 98.

An extensive photographer of OSU-related events and people, Henderson ('38) was well-known throughout Oregon for his slideshow presentations to schools and clubs on the "magic of research" and other topics. The collection of Henderson's photographs in the OSU Archives numbers over 50000 images. Henderson died in 2006

Phyllis Pendell was the daughter of Lawrence Roy and Maud Vernon Pendell.

This accession is made up of materials generated by the Office of University Marketing and consists of ad campaign files, sound recordings, cds, and 3 betacam videotapes. Documenting interaction between ad firms and University Marketing, the ad campaign records include correspondence, approval for marketing services forms, and samples of print ads. Also included in this transfer are marketing plans for African-American, Asian-American, and transfer students. Numbering 59 cassettes in total, the sound recordings consists of radio ad spots, public service announcements, and interviews with students as a part of focus group research. The cds (16 in all) and videotapes also contain radio ad spots and documentation of focus group research.

This accession consists of a family history by George and Donna Roberts
entitled "George Roberts and the Hoffman Family: Oregon Pioneers." Tracing the westward journey of family patriarchs George Roberts and William Hoffman from New Jersey and Ohio to their eventual settlement in Oregon, the essay documents details of early Corvallis including the purchase of a 34-acre parcel of land from George and Elizabeth Roberts that formed OSU's first campus tract of property in 1871.

This accession consists of materials generated by the Office of University Advancement which relate to the planning and publicity of special events. Primarily made up of photographs depicting events and ceremonies related to university commencement for the years 2002 through 2004, this transfer also contains correspondence and meeting minutes from the Events Networking Group and the Foresty Centennial Celebration Committee. Numbering about 1600 images in total (800 prints and 800 negatives), the photographs in this accession also document two farewell gatherings for Vice Provost Tim White in 2004. There are also images on a cd and diskette depicting one of the events for Tim White and a ceremony for EOC graduates. A VHS video tape recording the 1996 commencement ceremonies was also found among these materials.

This accession consists of materials generated and collected by the Technology Transfer Office and includes article reprints, contracts, correspondence, dissertations, invention disclosure forms, newspaper clippings, notes, patent applications, photographs, press releases, reports, and research notebooks. In addition to documenting the process of obtaining patents for various technologies developed through research at OSU, these records also reflect litigation activity between the university and companies over patent rights. About one quarter of this transfer is made up of research data and notes relating to plant genetics research by Microbiology Department Professor W. G. Dougherty. Much of this information was found in numbered notebooks and has been retained in chronological order. The photographs (numbering about 150 prints and 400 slides in all) depict some of the technologies and inventions described in the records. There are also images taken by Dougherty that were found with his notebooks and reflect his genetics research.

This accession is made up of photographs taken by Library staff and others for use in the Friends of the Library Messenger newsletter. Numbering about 3011 images in total (1400 prints, 1600 negatives, and 11 slides), roughly half of the photographs in this transfer pertain to the expansion/remodel of the Library that took place from 1996 to 1999 and various events associated with it such as the groundbreaking ceremony and grand opening celebration. In addition to portraits of Library staff and student workers, the images making up the other half of this accession document prominent visitors to the Library such as Linus Pauling and Francis Crick, retirements and other staff events, symposia held in the Library, the construction of the Dibble Garden, artifacts from the Pauling Collection, and Library Campaign Committee members. Photographs that were reproduced from Archives' collections depicting the Kidder Library and past Library staff members like Director Rod Waldron were also found in this transfer.

This accession is made up of materials generated and collected by the OSU Women's Center and includes brochures, conference programs, correspondence, flyers, informational materials, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, notes, a photograph, and reports. In addition to documenting administrative aspects of the center such as strategic planning and advisory board work, these records also reflect the center's sponsorship of visiting speakers to campus, participation on university committees and task forces relating to sexual assault prevention programs, involvement in campus safety projects, and the remodel of kitchen and office areas in the Women's Center building. The conference programs reflect meetings of the Oregon in Higher Education Conference and the Women's Leadership Conference at OSU. The informational materials were collected in the process of putting together a faculty salary equity study.

This accession is made up of materials generated by the Memorial Union and the Department of Recreational Sports that were collected by OSU Women's Center Director Beth Rietveld. In addition to a survey regarding student use of the Memorial Union, the other items relating to the Memorial Union consist of annual reports covering the years 1994/95 through 1999/2000. Materials pertaining to the Recreational Sports Department include newsletters, event flyers, a report, a strategic planning document, newspaper clippings, and historical essays/notes about the Dixon Recreational Building and the McAlexander Fieldhouse. Publications generated by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, which is headquatered at OSU, were also found in this transfer. Before serving as the Director of the Women's Center, Rietveld worked as Assistant Director of Educational Activities in the Student Involvement Office.

This accession consists of course packets for Oregon Traffic Safety workshops prepared by the Kiewit Center in the College of Engineering. Funded since 1979 from an Oregon Department of Transportation grant, these workshops are part of a program of continuing education to assist working professional engineers and recent graduates to pass state certification exams. The Kiewit Center puts on an average of 8 to 10 of these workshops a year. The topics covered in these workshop packets include access mangement, highway capacity analysis, traffic control devices, and traffic calming. Originally established as the Transportation Research Institute in 1962, the Kiewit Center for Infrastructure and Transportation serves as the umbrella organization for almost all research within the School of Civil and Construction Engineering.

This addition to the Robert W. Henderson Photograph Collection is made up of slides generated from images taken by alumnus and Agricultural Experiment Station Assistant Director Henderson. Documenting various facets of student, faculty, and research life at OSU, some of these images appeared in presentations delivered by Henderson on topics such as OSU research and Oregon agriculture. Numbering about 20,000 images in total, over half of the slides are numbered and arranged in chronological order while the others are roughly grouped by subject. Among the subjects depicted in the unnumbered images include: Henderson's retirement party, strawberry research, the Columbia Gorge and other Oregon scenic regions, meetings of the Portland Executives Association, and students from Thailand visiting OSU. Also included in this accession are two sets of inventories listing the numbered slides. The original inventory by Henderson is documented in three 3-ring binder notebooks which describe the subject matter of the image, date, the photographer (if not Henderson), and the number assigned to the photograph. The other inventory is a consolidation of the information from the three notebooks into one list that was compiled by Crop and Soil Science Department Professor Arnold Appleby. Lists of numbered images compiled by Henderson in preparation for particular presentations and correspondence requesting reproductions of some of Henderson's photographs were also found in this transfer.

Founded in 1934 to encourage and facilitate research for the benefit of Oregon's agricultural industry, the Agricultural Research Foundation serves as the custodian of funds drawn from private and public sources used to support projects conducted at OSU and throughout the state. Operating as a non-profit corporation, the Agricultural Research Foundation has a number of OSU faculty on it's Board of Directors.

Murphy, Dan and Doris, Papers (MSS)New Collection

This accession is made up of materials generated and collected by alumni Dan Murphy and Doris (Dow) Murphy reflecting their student experience at Oregon State College. Mostly consisting of photographs, this transfer also includes campus event programs, a newsletter for the Oregon State chapter of the Sigma Phi Sigma fraternity, football games ticket stubs, football game programs, and Dan's Associated Students membership card. Taken by both Dan and Doris, the photographs are in the form of loose prints and prints mounted on album pages. Numbering 38 prints in total, the unattached images (shot by Dan) depict a baseball game, Homecoming Weekend activities, the marching band and rally squad at a game, a picnic with fellow students, and a friend in front of a fraternity house. The mounted images include shots of Doris with various friends and fellow Jameson Cooperative House residents, campus buildings, a procession of students through campus, and a Newman Center field trip to Silver Falls.

Coming to Oregon State College in 1937, Dan Paul Murphy attended classes for three academic years until his schooling was interrupted by military service. Returning to campus in 1946, Murphy graduated a year later with an undergraduate degree in pharmacy and went on to settle in Portland. Doris Azelia Dow studied home economics at OSC for two years beginning in 1939. Dan and Doris married in 1948.

This accession consists of 4 scrapbooks compiled by Speech Department professor C. B. Mitchell that document over 30 years of theatre productions by the Speech Department and the OSC Mask and Dagger Club. Primarily made up of photographs, the scrapbooks also contain playbills and programs for some of the productions. The photographs are arranged in chronological order by the date of the production and mostly depict finished stage sets with actors in complete dress. There are also images illustrating theatre culture backstage such as the construction of the sets, lighting equipment, the process of applying makeup, the setting up of outdoor productions, and the logistics of taking a play "on the road" to Portland. Some of the images are accompanied by handwritten notations by Mitchell regarding set design and production "firsts" such as the first use of backstage lighting for atmosphere and the first appearance of silhouette onstage.

Coming to campus in 1920, Charles B. Mitchell established the Department of Speech and served as the director of the college Debating Team for many years. In his 32 years as professor and department head at OSC, Mitchell also helped to develop the Theatre Department and KOAC, the first college program in radio broadcasting in the Northwest. He died in 1955.

The list of compositions is chronologically arranged by date of concert while the composer list is organized alphabetically by name. Frankel's lists cover the years 1922 through 2005.

Mostly made up of records documenting TOSC-TAB projects in communities throughout the Western U.S. (California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Alaska) which requested assistance with the re-development and cleaning of contaminated industrial properties, this transfer also includes staff meeting minutes, outreach committee records, and a resource manual. Numbering 312 images in total (172 slides, 88 prints, and 52 negatives) the photographs depict TOSC-TAB and Oregon Water Resources Research Institute (OWRRI) staff gatherings, EPA Superfund/brownfield sites, text and graphics from a TOSC-TAB slide presentation, and a presentation from a risk communication workshop on building community cooperation. The brownfield sites documented in these images include locales in South Phoenix, Sitka, (Alaska), Casmalia (California), and Albany. The videotape pertains to the Western Ecology Division Student Intern Program.

Administered by the Center for Water and Environmental Sustainability (CWEST), the TOSC-TAB programs provided technical assistance, education, and training to communities affected by environmental contamination and hazardous waste from former industrial operations.The programs were dissolved in the summer of 2007.

This accession is made of materials generated and collected by Edna Amidon and includes certificates, correspondence, maps, newspaper clippings, notes, photographs, postcards, publications, reports, a scrapbook, speeches, a thesis, travel diaries, and a book manuscript. Primarily documenting Amidon's work as an administrator in home economics education with the federal government in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, these materials also reflect Amidon's participation of conferences, involvement in an outreach mission in post-war Germany to study the status of home economics education there, and her collection of information regarding the career of Adelaide Baylor, head of the Home Economics Division of the Federal Board for Vocational Education. The scrapbook contains clippings about the federal government's Home Economics Education Service. In addition to a few portraits shots, the photographs (totaling about 60 prints in all) depict Amidon at conferences, meetings with other home economists, and scenes from her work internationally in Europe and India.

Graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1927 with a MS in Home Economics, Edna Amidon begin her career with the federal government in the Home Economics Education Service of the Federal Board for Vocational Education in 1929. Continuing her work in home economics at the Department of Education into the 1960s, Amidon headed up a field work project on home economics leadership in Oregon in which OSU was a participant. She died in 1982.

This accession consists of photographic images (numbering about 1400 slides and 9 prints in all) generated by the College of Home Economics for use in classroom instruction. Primarily made up of slide show presentations, some of which also contain accompanying scripts and sound recordings, these images were used to teach about table setting techniques, home design, careers in home economics, Job Corps training, counseling for teachers, lesson planning, home economics education, the OSU Child Development Centers, and the Family Resource Management Department. One of the presentations, "Professionals in the Making: Four Field Experiences in Home Economics" also contains sound recordings and transcripts of interviews with the four students profiled. Regarding the Sound recordings, there are 13 casette tapes and 1 reel-to-reel.

This accession is made up of publications and reports generated by the College of Home Economics. In addition to guides for the instruction of home economic curricula in Oregon preschool and secondary schools, this tranfer also contains studies on vocational education, a handbook for on-site operation of a nutrition program for the elderly, and a job satisfation survey report of Oregon home economics teachers. Historical timelines, notes, and other information on home economics history at OSU and the U.S. were also found with the publications and reports. Another item included in this transfer is an wall exhibit featuring five photographic images mounted to a larger foam core panel cut out in the shape of the state of Oregon. Depicting high school teachers and students engaged in food science and fashion merchandising projects, the exhibit is labeled "Oregon Home Economics-New Directions."

Among the topics covered by these presentations include: teen/parent programs, food science and technology, fashion merchandising, and the teaching of interpersonal relationship education in high school. The presenters include: Joanne Miksis, Debbie Zeller, Doris Brannan, Gini Teemer, and Kay Mehas. There is one presentation by OSU faculty member Clara Pratt. The two tapes in this transfer that were produced elsewhere pertain to home ecnomics classes in Portland public schools and nutrition education programs throughout the U.S.

This accession consists of materials collected and generated by History Professor Don McIlvenna regarding the research and writing (with fellow History Professor Darold Wax) of a report on faculty salaries in the OSU College of Liberal Arts "An Essay on the Collegial Relationships: Salary Symbols and Services in the College of Liberal Arts," and the debate sparked by it's release. In addition to statistical data and various drafts of the report, this transfer also contains correspondence, grant proposals, newspaper clippings, notes, publications, reports, and McIlvenna's testimony before the State Board of Higher Education. Actions influenced by the report that are documented in these records include an evaluation of the College of Liberal Arts' instructional program by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education and the Board's 1976 reversal of the 1932 ban upon the creation of graduate programs in social science and the humanities at OSU. There are also clippings relating to the establishment of an interdisciplinary program in Northwest Studies program at OSU in the wake of the Board's decision. Items pertaining to McIlvenna's career include student evaluations of his teaching and a conference paper.

Don McIlvenna came to OSU in 1965 to fill a teaching post in the History Department. Specializing in the study of American diplomatic history, McIlvenna focused his research upon the World War Two era. Retiring in 1995, McIlvenna died in 2007.

Largely pertaining to the publication and review of King's book: "The Crisis of Our Time: Reflections on the Course of Western Civilization, Past, Present, and Future," these materials also document King's work as an instructor, writing of newspaper editorials on political events, and the sketching of cartoons and caricatures based on other OSU faculty and well-known Oregon personalities (and issues) that he distributed throughout the History Depatrment.

David B. King came to the OSU History Department in 1962. Specializing in the study of modern European history, King retired in 1998.

This accession is made up of a handbook prepared by physical education professor Erma Weir describing dance steps, calls, and accompanying music for square, mixer, and round dances. The manual was not published for a specific class.

Appointed as an physical education instructor in 1945, Erma Weir specialized in the teaching of folk and square dance at Oregon State until her retirement in 1974. In addition to serving as acting head of the department of Physical Education for Women for a year, Weir also started a student dance club, the Promenaders.

This accession consists of materials generated and collected by Ethnic Studies Department Professor and Chair Erlinda Gonzales-Berry and includes certificates, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, posters, publications, sound recordings, speeches, and a videotape. Reflecting her research of Mexican immigration to the U.S. and Chicano literature, these records also document Erlinda's receipt of awards/honors, organization of conferences, presentation activity, review of books, and appointment to the Oregon Commission for Hispanic Affairs. The photographs include a portrait shot of Gonzales-Berry, group shots of dept. chairs in the College of Liberal Arts, participants in a "Latinas in Oregon" conference, and Gonzales-Berry delivering speeches at various events. The sound recordings are interviews with Mexican immigrants and the children of early Mexicano migrant settlers in Oregon. The VHS videotape contains a recording of two interviews dubbed from the Spanish-language TV program "Cita Con Nelly." In one of the interviews with Nelly, the host, Gonzales-Berry describes the OSU Ethnic Studies Dept., the book "Herencia" which she helped to edit, and resources at the OSU Archives on the Bracero Program. Also documented on the tape is an interview with Javier Cervantes, coordinator of the Casa Educacional minority education office at OSU.

Coming to OSU in 1997 to assume the post of Ethnic Studies Department Chair, Erlinda Gonzales-Berry specialized in teaching Latino literature and culture with a research focus on the topic of Mexican immigration to the U.S. In addition to having served on the MLA Executive board of American Departments of Foreign Languages and the National Advisory Board of the U.S. Latino Literary Heritage Project, she has organized several conferences and symposia on Chicano studies in Oregon.

This addition to the William G. Robbins Papers consists of correspondence, essays, grant proposals, lecture notes, newspaper clippings, publications, reference materials, research notes, sound recordings, and videotapes. Primarily documenting book and doctoral dissertation research, this transfer also contains reviews of Robbins' books, correspondence with publishers, a proposal for the formation of a regional history center, records from conferences organized by Robbins, and materials relating to the development of a distance education history course. Many of the notes are on index cards and reflect research Robbins gleaned from 19th century Roseburg-area (Oregon) census data for his dissertation.The 18 VHS videotapes contain recordings of lectures given by Robbins for the following classes: "Ecology and History: Landscapes of the Columbia Basin" (HIST 470/570) and "History of the American West" (HIST 468), and "History of the American Indian" (HIST 367). Made up of 7 cassette tapes, the sound recordings document the "Nature and Culture in the Northern West" symposium, where Robbins gave a presentation.

The Technology Resource Fee was instituted in 1995 to improve student access to computer and other technological equipment. The first project funded by these funds was the development of a computer lab in the Library. Comprised of 11 members that includes 3 students, the Technology Resource Fee Committee is appointed by the Provost on an annual basis.

In addition to the will and other legal documents setting up the fund, this transfer includes correspondence, newsletters, newspaper clippings, notes, and photographic images. Biographical information on Hoener and George Cornwall can also be found in this accession. The photographs consist of 9 negatives depicting the awarding of the SWF award to unidentified recipients.

Established in 1986 through the estate of Dorothy Hoener's husband, Edgar P., the Dorothy Hoener Memorial Fund awards five fellowships annually for continuing graduate students in forestry. Born and educated in British Columbia, Canada, Dorothy married Edgar in 1948. She died in 1957. Edgar worked for the "Timberman" magazine in various positions from 1932 to 1967. He died in 1985. In addition to founding and publishing "The Timberman," George Cornwall also served on the Board of Regents for the Oregon Agricultural College.

This accession consists of materials generated by the Growing Oaks Child Development Center (GOCDC) and the Corvallis Community Children's Center (CCCC) and includes bylaws, contracts, correspondence, financial records, handbooks, meeting minutes and agendas, newsletters, newspaper clippings, reports, requests for proposals, and tax information. Pertaining to the administration of the Growing Oaks day care center, these records document the transition of the center's sponsorship from the EPA to OSU, the process of selecting new officers/board members, and the search for a contractor to manage the center after the departure of the Joyful Noise Inc. pending financial mismanagement.

One of two child care facilities at OSU, the Growing Oaks Child Development Center was established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lab on campus in 1990 to serve the needs of federal government employees at OSU and the community. When declining enrollment resulted in the loss of federal funding in 2001, OSU stepped in to take over operation of the center. Located at 3731 SW Jefferson Way, the center is primarily designed to provide child care services to OSU students, faculty, and staff but is also open to community members when space is available. Staffing and other daily administrative tasks at Growing Oaks have been managed by the nonprofit agency Corvallis Community Children's Centers (CCCC) since 1994. Women's Center Director Beth Rietveld has served as OSU's coordinator for Growing Oaks from 1997 until this year.

This accession is made up of materials reflecting the work of Physics Professor Melvin Cutler and consists of article reprints, a conference paper, and a doctoral thesis (Columbia University). These publications document efforts by Cutler while employed with the Hughes Aircraft company.

Coming to OSU in 1963 to work for the Physics Department, Melvin Cutler had previously been employed with the Hughes Aircraft Semiconductor Laboratory and the General Dynamics Company. Specializing in the study of the electronic properties of molecular liquids, Cutler was particularly interested in the development of liquid semiconductors. Becoming Professor Emeritus in 1989, Cutler died in 2004.

This accession consists of a statement issued by the Adelphian Literary Society proclaiming the dedication of an unidentified hall on January 6 1882. Measuring 16x20 inches and made of a heavy, vellum-like paper stock mounted to wood, the handwritten statement lists the officers, active members, and honorary members of the Adelphian Literary Society.

The Adelphian Literary Society, which began about 1882, was likely the first literary society at the Corvallis College and State Agricultural College. Unlike many later societies, it was open to both men and women. It disbanded in 1889 and transferred its library to the college.

This addition to the Royal Jackson Papers is made up of materials collected by Forestry Resources Professor Royal Jackson in the course of researching the history of the OSU College of Forestry and two Oregon Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camps. Primarily consisting of photographs, this transfer also includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, reports, and a photograph album. In addition to portraits and group shots of College of Forestry staff and students, the photographs (numbering about 600 prints and 400 negatives in all) document a logging operation, classroom instruction, the Annual Fernhopper Banquet and other events, Peavy Hall, Peavy Arboretum, and a 1915 student field trip/picnic to the Santiam National Forest. Images of Eastern and Southern Oregon farms, ranches, and the general surrounding landscape were also found in this accession, along with photos of 19th century Native American life in the Winema National Forest region. The two CCC camps documented in the photographs and album are Camp Arboretum and Camp Newport. Some of the images in this transfer were taken for, and featured in, the forestry student publication, the Annual Cruise. The reports and correspondence mostly pertain to the management of Peavy Arboretum by the College of Forestry.

This accession consists of a pennant awarded to Barbara Carlin at the 4-H Summer Camp on the Oregon Agricultural College campus in 1920. Made of black felt and measuring 49 inches long by 13 inches wide, the pennant contains the letters "OAC" sewn in orange felt at both ends of its rectangular form. Barbara Carlin received this pennant for second prize in a bread making contest at the 4-H Club Summer Camp. Carlin was a member of the Metzger Elementary School 4-H Cooking Club and entered the contest as an alternate for another girl too sick to attend the camp. Over the course of the eight-day summer camp, attendees stayed in campus housing and took classes where home economics classes were taught.

Documented on the DVD are eulogies from friends and colleagues at the service as well as a slide show of images depicting Sulzman with family, students, and friends.

This accession is made up of materials generated and collected by Radiology Professor E. Dale Trout and includes article reprints, correspondence, reference materials, reports, and an index card system of reference sources. Documenting Trout's research on X-ray machinery and administration of the X-Ray Science and Engineering Laboratory, the correspondence is arranged both in alphabetical order by last name and chronological order by date received. Also included in this transfer is correspondence and research by Trout's colleague and assistant director of the laboratory, John Kelley. The subjects examined in the reference materials include X-ray equipment, super voltage irradiation, diagnostic radiology, and radioactive protection. Aside from monographs, the reference materials consist of manuals, conference proceedings, industry publications, and a textbook.

Before coming to OSU in 1962 to fill the post of Professor of Radiological Physics, E. Dale Trout worked for the General Electric corporation in research and development projects involving all areas of radiology. In addition to being instrumental in the formation of the OSU Radiation Center, Trout established the X-Ray Science and Engineering Laboratory in 1965 and served as it's Director until his retirement in 1976. Trout died in 1977. Working with Trout at General Electric, John Kelley came to OSU to serve as Assistant Director of the Lab in 1966 and later became Radiation Health Officer for campus in 1976. He died in 1982.

This accession is made up of materials generated and collected by Paleontology Professor Earl L. Packard and includes notes, reference materials, maps, correspondence, and a student paper. The handwritten and typed notes reflect archaeological field work by Packard and others in the Mitchell, Suplee, and Beavercreek areas of Oregon. Research notations can also be found on handrawn and mass produced maps, some of which document work at summer field camps in Dayville and Beavercreek, Oregon. Primarily consisting of studies on the fossil remains of ammonites, mollusca, and pelecypods, the reference materials also include articles on ancient Mesoamerican culture and Alaskan geology.The student paper documents research from one of the college summer field camps coordinated by Packard.

Coming to OSU in 1932 to teach paleontology in the Geology Department, Earl Packard served as both the chair of his department (from 1932 until 1950) and the Dean of the College of Science (from 1932 until 1938). Among his specialities was the study of the fossil record of the mesozoic and cenozoic periods along the Pacific coast. Packard was also well known for his summer geology field camps in Eastern Oregon. Retiring in 1950, Packard died in 1983.

This accession is made up of proof sheets for the book "Bart: The Memoirs of Frank H. Bartholomew" and includes a handwritten index for the book and a letter from friend and book collaborator George McCadden. Published in 1983, these proofs contains material edited out of the final manuscript. The letter from McCadden describes the situation behind the editing and the donation of the original unaltered proofs.

Graduating in 1922, Bartholomew worked for the Oregonian newspaper and later served as President and Chairman of United Press International (UPI) from 1955 until 1972. He died in 1985.

This addition to the Hugh E. Morrison Papers consists of materials reflecting Morrison's research of vegetable crop and hop pest control and application of pesticides, including DDT. The reports that make up most of this accession document research on a variety of insects, among them: symphilids, red hop spiders, and cabbage maggots. Included with the research reports is an instructional notebook for a course in "Methods of Insect Investigations" (Entomology 816) which includes correspondence between Morrison and other entomologists about pesticide applicators. Abstracts of research papers collected by Morrison from Pacific Northwest Vegetable conferences were also found in this transfer.

This accession consists of photographic portraits of OSU staff and students taken by the Communication Media Center. Organized alphabetically into two groupings, portraits organized by name and those sorted by department and college, these images also document events such the College of Liberal Arts Awards Luncheon and University Day. Among the programs represented in these photographs include: Pharmacy, Vet. Medicine, Civil Engineering, Air Force ROTC, Apparels, Interiors, Housing, and Merchandizing, Public Health, and the Physics Department.

This accession is made up of a draft manuscript for the third edition of the book "Archery" and photographs and illustrations featured in the book. Written by instructors Natalie Reichart and Gilman Keasey, the book served as a text for students and teachers in target archery instruction and was originally published in 1936 as "Modern Methods in Archery." Keasey appears in the photographs as one of models demonstrating proper archery technique and handling.

Attending Oregon Agricultural College from 1917 to 1920, but earning her undergraduate degree from Columbia University in 1924, Reichart returned to OAC to fill a post as instructor in physical education for women in 1925. Promoted to assistant professor in 1937, Reichart worked on campus until 1945. In addition to being named National Archery Champion for 1935 and 1936, Keasey also served as an archery instructor for the college.

This accession is made up of photographs taken by Woody Holderman during his work as a stream clearance foreman with the Oregon Game Commission (OGC). Documenting OGC's program of wood clearance from streams and rivers in Oregon coastal basin forests, these images depict active removal of wood debris by crews under Holderman's supervision, the areas before and after the clearance projects, manmade features on the streams such as fish ladders, and river flooding. Consisting of 943 images in total (772 prints and negatives, 171 slides) the photographs are attached to and sleeved into pages arranged into a numerical order. Inventories listing the location, subject matter, and date of the images in order by page number can be found in the folders with the photographs. Among the rivers and tributaries represented in these images include the Siuslaw, Siletz, Coquille, the South Santiam, Lobster Creek, the Rogue, and Alsea. Research papers by Anthropology Professor Courtland Smith and Fisheries Wildlife Professor Jesse Ford describing the practice, rationale, and history of wood clearance projects in Oregon after World War II has been included in this transfer and can be found in the central file for this collection. One of the papers features some of the images taken by Holderman.

Born in 1915, Woody (Woodrow) Holderman began his career with the Oregon Game Commission (OGC) in 1947 as a trapper and demolition specialist involved in the removal of beaver dams. Holderman's work for OGC in stream clearance projects began in 1951. Assigned to projects by Commission biologists, Holderman hired contractors for the projects, supervised the labor, and evaluated the results. Holderman's position also involved the surveying of streams from the ground and air. Retiring from state service in 1978, Holderman continued his stream clearance work employed by private firms.

This accession is made up of an addition to the Roland E. Dimick Papers and consists of commencement programs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, and teaching certificates and contracts. Primarily pertaining to Dimick's work as a wildlife and fisheries professor, these materials document his interest in keeping in contact with alumni of the program, receipt of the OSU Distinguished Service Award, and recognition from others of his 25 years-plus service to the Fisheries and Wildlife Department. In addition to an image of Dimick as a toddler in Hubbard, Oregon, the photographs (38 prints in all) reflect Dimick's work for OSU and includes shots of Dimick attending campus events, early game and fish management classes, reunion gatherings of fisheries and wildlife alumni, and engaged in research at the Yaquina Bay Experiment Research Station.

Born in 1899, Roland Eugene Dimick received a B.S. in 1926 and an M.S. in 1931 from Oregon State College. Dimick served as a teaching fellow and assistant at the Agricultural Experiment Station from 1929 to 1931, and later worked as an Assistant Professor from 1931 to 1936. He helped establish the Department of Fish, Game, and Fur Animal Management and was appointed Professor and department head in 1936. He was department head until 1963 and became Professor Emeritus in 1966. Dimick received the OSU Distinguished Service Award in 1969. He was a member of the Sigma Xi, Kappa Delta Pi and Gamma Sigma Delta honorary societies. He died in 1980.

This addition to the Tony Van Vliet Papers is made up of buttons, certificates, correspondence, newspaper clippings, notes, photographs, plaques, posters, precinct maps, publications, sound recordings, speeches, stickers, videotapes, and a chart of campaign volunteers. Largely documenting Van Vliet's career as a Oregon State representative for Benton County, these materials also pertain to Van Vliet's participation on advisory bodies appointed by the governor and involvement in Benton County bond and fiscal measures after retiring from elective service in 1993. In addition to chronologically arranged files documenting legislative sessions and election campaigns, there are also materials in this transfer relating to particular bills and measures. Among the topics reflected in these files include: state employee retirement benefits, the Oregon Health Plan, a sales tax proposal, and statewide wrestling/boxing regulation. The photographs depict Van Vliet at work in the capitol as a representative, giving speeches, with his family, and receiving honors from the Oregon Governor and others. The sound recordings document senate sessions, campaign ads, speeches, and interviews. Wooden poles used as a prop in demonstrating the Oregon's lack of a "three-legged" tax structure were also part of this transfer.

Receiving two degrees from the OSU College of Forestry (BS 1952; MS 1958), Tony Van Vliet taught forestry classes here from 1955 to 1990 and also served as a forest products extension specialist from 1963-1971. Van Vliet also worked for the Career Planning and Placement Center from 1971 until his retirement from OSU in 1990. Van Vliet was first elected to the Oregon Legislative Assembly in the fall of 1974, and was subsequently re-elected to nine two year terms. He declined to seek re-election in 1994 and retired from the legislature in January 1995. Van Vliet served on the Joint Ways and Means Committee from the 1979 session through the 1993 session; he was co-chair of the committee in 1991. He also served on the Emergency Board (1977 through 1991 sessions); the Governor's Public Lands Advisory Committee (1979 through 1993 sessions); and the Joint Data Processing Committee (1977 through 1991 sessions).

Established to "ensure that the treatment of human participants in research meets the highest ethical standard," the OSU Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews and approves all research projects involving human participants. This process is required for all research that incorporates human interaction (such as surveys, testing, etc.) regardless of the source of funding for the project or the level of risk posed to participants.

This addition to the Sphinx Society records consists of a historical essay, membership list, and a large wooden plaque with metal plates emblazoned with members' names. Written in 2006 by Sphinx member Berlan Lemon, the essay chronicles the founding of the society to it's demise in 1969.

Formed in 1909 as a honorary society open only to senior male students, the Sphinx Society operated largely as a secret organization until it's disbanding in 1969. With it's purpose defined as helping to direct "student activities along lines which will promote the best interests of the student body and the institution", the society selected no more than 11 students for active membership per year.

In addition to reflecting the routine administration of OPA, these materials also document the awarding of OPA scholarships.

This addition to the Wayne Courtney Papers is made up of publications and reports that document Courtney's career as instructor and consultant as well as his ventures into prose writing. Primarily reflecting Courtney's teaching work before he came to OSU in 1972 and after gaining emeritus status in 1993, this accession includes textbooks relating to performance-based testing modules, reports of testing and evaluation projects in conjunction with Kasetsart University in Thailand, and yearbooks from two schools where Courtney taught before arriving at OSU. The literary materials consist of a novel, essays about Yaquina Bay shorebirds and Native Americans, and a short story about an "Indian Girl Named Sara." Also included in this transfer are newsletters and membership lists of the genealogical group, the Courtenay Society. In addition to articles penned by Courtney that appear in the newsletters, he is also reflected in the membership lists.

This accession is made up of 41 slides taken by alumnus Paul Andresen depicting the construction of Goss Stadium and two baseball games. The two contests documented in these images consist of the first game to be played in Goss Stadium and a tournament game in Peoria, Arizona, in 1999.

Andresen graduated in 1968 with a degree in engineering.
