The sample tests include both blanks and examples of student work.

Other images in this accession show students engaged in study around campus, exhibit case displays in the lobby of the Kerr Administration Building, and close-up shots of flowers on campus.

This accession consists of materials collected and generated by former State Representative Liz VanLeeuwen pertaining to the listing of the spotted owl as a protected endangered species in Oregon. Gathered from a variety of sources such as the federal government, the forest industry, environmental organizations, task forces/advisory boards, and local newspapers, the informational materials in this transfer include legislative documents, maps, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, notes, publications, reports, sound recordings, and a videotape. Correspondence from VanLeeuwen regarding various legislation can also be found in this transfer along with materials relating to the protection of the marbled murrelet.

A graduate of Oregon State College, Liz VanLeeuwen served in the Oregon Legislature as State Representative for District 37 (Linn County) from 1981 to 1999. In her role as representative, VanLeeuwen campaigned actively against the listing of the spotted owl as an endangered species. In addition to her work in the legislature, VanLeeuwen has also been involved in a number of other advisory and governmental bodies, including: the Western States Legislature Forestry Task Force, South Santiam Watershed Management Area Committee, and the Linn Soil and Water Conservation District.

This accession consists of records generated and collected by the Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) and includes annual reports, constitutions/bylaws, correspondence, flyers, meeting minutes, photographs, and publications. The records mostly document administrative matters such as grant funding, departmental cost sharing, an internal university review of the NRI, and the development of the Gary Costley Award. The photographs, numbering roughly 50 images in all, primarily depict various NRI members (including Clara Storvick, Margy Woodburn, James Oldfield, Paul Weswig, O.H. Muth, George Arscott) that were used in NRI newsletters. Other images show researchers in a lab (Karen Robinson and Paul Porter) and an exhibit devoted to the work of NRI in the lobby of the Kerr Administration building.

Numbering 443 photographs in all (153 prints, 183 negatives, 107 slides), this transfer also includes images of a nutrition conference held at OSU in 1970, an event honoring the centenary of the College of Home Economics, and interior and exterior shots of Milam and Education Halls.

This accession consists of materials generated and collected by the Alumni Association in the course of writing and editing articles for the Oregon Stater magazine. In addition to transcripts of interviews, this transfer includes article drafts, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, press releases, and publications. With a little over half of these files organized by the particular edition of the Oregon Stater in which the contents were featured, these materials have also been arranged by subject as well. Among the topics addressed in these files include: the influence of the national Civil War at OSU, President William Kerr, the history of the OSU Alumni Association, J.W. "Bud" Forrester, and the history of the Beaver Yearbook.

Armantrout, Neil, Papers (MSS)New Collection

This accession consists of materials generated and collected by alumnus Neil Armantrout in the course of his dissertation research on fisheries in Iran and his work as a fishery biologist for the Bureau of Land Management in Oregon and Utah. In addition to a bound copy of the doctoral thesis and several drafts, this transfer includes article reprints, correspondence, grant proposals, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, reports, and student papers. Materials related to OSU include undergraduate student papers and correspondence regarding admission to Graduate School. The photographs, which number 584 images (181 prints and 403 negatives) in total, depict various identified and unidentified fish specimens.

Born in 1941, Neil Armantrout received undergraduate and graduate degrees from OSU in Zoology, General Science, and Fisheries Biology. After a brief stint with the Washington State Department of Fisheries, Armantrout served two years with the Peace Corps in Iran from 1965-1967, where he taught English and biology courses at Pahlavi University. After his involvement with the Peace Corps, Armantrout began to compile information for the Iranian Game and Fish Department on local fish species, a project that he turned into a doctoral dissertation completed in 1981. Armantrout also taught at the University of Tabriz in Iran from 1973-1974. When he returned to the U.S. in 1975, Armantrout worked as a fishery biologist with the Bureau of Land Management in Utah and Oregon. He died in 2003.

This addition to the Miner Papers consists of materials generated and collected by Bioresource Engineering Professor J. Ronald Miner which pertain to his consulting work and research of odor and waste management control of dairies and livestock facilities. Primarily made up of reports, this transfer also contains correspondence, printed digital images of Miner doing field research, and transcripts of testimony provided by Miner as an expert witness. Two of the reports offer concluding analyses of the Tillamook Rural Clean Water Project, while the legal case involves a suit over a waste disposal permit application for a dairy in Texas.

Morse, Donald Wesley, Photograph Album (P 255)New Collection

This accession consists of a photograph album assembled by alumnus Donald Wesley Morse documenting his experience at Oregon Agricultural College as a student from 1917 to 1921. Primarily made up of photographs, the album also contains images clipped from various magazines and publications showing the college, stylized representations of athletes, natural landscapes, and performers of the stage and screen. Images related to OAC include shots of fellow students (most of which are identified), the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house and members, debate team members and contests, baseball and football players, the Rook/Sophomore Tug-of-War, and campus buildings. Family members, including Morse' wife Marguerite, are also depicted in this album. Also documented is Morse' convalescence in a veteran's hospital in Walla Walla for tuberculosis contacted during World War I.

Graduating from the School of Commerce in 1921, Donald Wesley Morse belonged to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and participated in the debate team. Shortly after graduation in 1921, Morse married fellow alum Marguerite Volbrecht that same year. Morse died in 1923 from tuberculosis he contacted in service during World War I.

This accession consists of records pertaining to the second expansion and addition of the Library (completed in 1999) as well as the construction of the Dibble Garden at the foot of the SE corner of the building. In addition to architectural drawings and book plans, this transfer includes records from the Courtyard Quotations Project Committee. The committee materials consist mostly of correspondence and newspaper clippings documenting the process of selecting quotes for the brick courtyard in front of the Library. Among those featured in the correspondence are Beverly Cleary, Ursula LeGuin, Barry Lopez, and the wife of William Appleby Williams. Also included are notebooks with building information compiled in the process of planning for the Library expansion. These records consist of correspondence, reports, floor plans, and completed space inventory forms.

This accession consists of a biographical essay written by Jeanne Dost pertaining to her career at OSU and legacy in establishing the OSU Womens' Center. In addition to the narrative, there are also photocopies of correspondence, certificates and a newspaper clipping included with the essay.

Jeanne Ebbert Dost's association with OSU began in 1965, when she assumed the post of Assistant Director of the Research Coordinating Unit. Two years later, Dost moved to the Economics Department to serve as an Assistant Professor. Citing employment discrimination, Dost filed suit against the Economics Department and OSU and left the university in 1971. Returning a year later to help organize a campus women's study group of faculty members, Dost founded the Women's Center in 1973 and served as it's first Director. Also serving as the first Director of the Women's Studies Program, Dost helped to establish certificate and graduate degrees in Women's Studies at OSU. In 1991, Dost retired from the university.

Exploring various topics in the history of OSU instruction, landscape, and culture, these essays were generated as a part of an assignment encouraging the usage of primary resources in the University Archives and Library. Among the subjects covered in these papers include: the origins of the Daily Barometer newspaper, Title IX implementation and compliance at OSU, OSU during World War II, the 1937 water shortage in Corvallis, Native Americans at OSU, and the changing face of Home Economics education in the university.

The images, numbering 39 prints in all, depict Thurza with fellow classmates and friends, class reunion group shots, a class trip to Mary's Peak, and a graduation portrait. Correspondence and newspaper clippings in this accession relate to class reunion gatherings and T. J. Starker.

Graduating from Oregon Agricultural College in 1915 with a degree in Home Economics, Thurza married Joseph Russell, a fellow alumnus and lived in Corvallis after college.

This accession consists of records generated by Yamhill County Home Economics Extension administrative bodies and member units and includes annual reports, correspondence, informational circulars, meeting minutes from the Yamhill County Home Economics Extension Committee, and scrapbooks. The three scrapbooks, which document Home Economic Extension unit activities and member news, contain correspondence, event programs, newspaper clippings, photographs, and poetry submitted by various unit members for a contest. The circulars were generated by the OSU Cooperative Extension Service and contain recovery and restoration tips for flood damaged clothes, documents, furniture, and residence.

Harelimana, Froduald, Collection (MSS)New Collection

This accession consists of materials collected and generated by Irma Delson documenting the campaign to bring Rwandian doctoral student Froduald Harelimana and his son to the U.S. after fleeing civil war strife in Rwanda. In addition to a uncompleted manuscript by Delson, this accession also contains newspaper clippings and correspondence. Also included in this transfer is a book (as well as its rough draft) written by Harelimana entitled "Rwanda: Society and Culture of a Nation in Transition."

Froduald Harelimana came to OSU from Rwanda in 1992 on a Fulbright Scholarship to study for a doctorate in Education. Having gone back to Rwanda in January 1994 to attend to his ailing wife, Harelimana found himself trapped in a country engaged in civil war and fled Rwanda with his son. After receiving an appeal from Harelimana for help in getting back to the U.S., Irma Delson and others at OSU starting a campaign to raise funds for Harelimana and his son's safe transport. Finding ample support in the local community, the campaign was successful and Harelimana and son Symphorien flew in the U.S. in November 1994. After receiving his doctorate, Harelimana eventually settled in Missouri.

This accession is an addition to the Pete Smith Papers consisting of a scrapbook compiled by Beth Russell documenting the Horner Museum tour: Travelling the Oregon Trail (#68). In addition to photographs, the scrapbook also contains brochures, flyers, maps, newspaper clippings, and tour itineraries. The images depict members of the tour group (including Beth Russell and Pete Smith) as well as the attractions on the tour. Among the sites documented in this scrapbook include: town of Sumpter, the Tygh Valley, Whitman Mission, Ladd Canyon, and the Cant Ranch near John Day.

This accession consists of research notes taken by Clarence L. Bump for coursework in horticulture, library studies, and secondary education. Also included with these notes are Extension Service publications and a flyer. Graduating in 1897 with a degree in mechanical engineering, Clarence Lee Bump lived and worked as a farmer and teacher in Airlie, Oregon. Two members of his family, Chester Allen and Jessie (wife?) also attended Oregon State in the 1920s.

This accession is an addition to the Richard Gilkey Photograph collection consisting of about 600 photographic negatives of images taken by Gilkey as a student at Oregon State. Depicted in these images are posed shots of students and various campus activities such as athletic games, dances, a Christmas party at the Memorial Union, commencement ceremonies, homecoming events, student touring of the "freedom train," a KOAC radio broadcast, and canoeing in the Mary's River. These images were featured in a variety of OSC publications including the Oregon Stater, Barometer, the College of Engineering Record Newsletter, and the Beaver Yearbook.

In addition to grant proposals for foundation funding, the materials in this transfer document NRI awards recognition, seminars and symposia sponsored by NRI, and the development of NRI. Roughly half of these records are Institute membership files organized alphabetically and contain article reprints, curriculum vita, certificates, and correspondence. The Nutrition Research Institute was established in 1965.

Storvick, Clara A., Papers (MSS) NEW Collection

This accession consists of materials generated by Professor Clara A. Storvick and includes conference papers, a bibliography on vitamin B6 research articles, publications, membership directories, photographs, research notes, and two copies of Storvick's doctoral thesis. The publications, one book and one reprinted article, feature research by Storvick. Depicted in the photographs are subjects used in Storvick's doctoral work as well a colleague in a laboratory.

Born in Minnesota in 1906, Clara Storvick came to Oregon State in 1945 to assume the post of Associate Professor of Foods and Nutrition in the College of Home Economics. Specializing in the study of the effects of vitamin B6, Storvick served as Director of the Nutrition Research Institute from 1965 to 1972. She became Professor emeritus in 1972. Storvick died in 2004.

This accession consists of statistical reports generated by the Registrar's Office and book plans. Depicting floor plan layouts for various OSU structures (both on and off campus), the book plans have been separated from a two-ring binder and placed in a box. The binder contained an index to the numbered plans that has been retained with the sheets.

This accession consists of materials pertaining to alumni Hattie Hanna and George B. Hovenden and includes commencement programs, diplomas, newspaper clippings, photographs, and a handwritten draft of George's graduation speech. In addition to portraits of Hattie and George, the photographs also include images of fellow classmates: William Yates, Lillian Glass, Edgar Grimm, and S.G. McCann.

Hattie Hanna graduated from Corvallis Agricultural College in 1880. Her father, J. A. Hanna founded the Presbyterian Church in Corvallis. Hattie and George were married in 1893.

Graduating in 1883, George B. Hovenden worked in the piano business in Portland, Oregon for over three decades. He died in 1932.

This accession consists of 19 photographic prints depicting James Wilson Sherburne speaking at unidentified meetings and conferences. Sherburne, born in 1905, served as Dean of the Oregon State System of Higher Education General Division from 1956 to 1962 and Vice-Chancellor of Continuing Education from 1962 to 1969. He died in 1995.

This accession consists of materials generated and collected by alumnus Albert Schleicher as a student in the School of Forestry. Primarily documenting coursework taken by Schleicher in Forestry and other fields, the bulk of this transfer consists of class notes, exams, term papers, and publications relating to the identification and study of trees. There are also photographs of classmates and several pieces of sheet music (from Schleicher's involvement in the Glee Club) in this accession as well. Born in 1903, Albert Schleicher studied in the School of Forestry at Oregon Agricultural College from 1927 to 1929. Never receiving a degree, Schleicher went on to work for the U.S. Army Depot and helped to establish the Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher Camps in California. He later retired to live in Midvale, Idaho, with his sister Flora Williams.

McCullough (#55-2). In addition to photographs, the scrapbooks also contain flyers, maps, newspaper clippings, hand rendered sketches, and tour itineraries. Among the attractions represented in these scrapbooks include: Mount St. Helens, the Trojan Power Plant, the Long Beach Kite Festival, and the construction of a bridge in Waldport.

This accession consists of 78 photographic prints from two dismantled photograph albums assembled by Multnomah County Extension Service staff which document Home Economic unit activities. Depicted in the images are Home Economic unit members (some of which are identified) in various workshops, picnics and parties, officer installations, and project exhibits. Among the subjects covered in the workshops include: metric system conversion, food preservation, automotive maintenance, pants fitting and alteration, upholstery, and the at-home development of cleaning supplies. Also included in this transfer is a historical essay on Extension Home Economic units in Multnomah County which tracing the origins and activities of some of the 38 units that have been established since 1925.

With slight differences in a few of the images between the two sets, the slides depict students with disabilities navigating throughout campus, using indoor facilities of various types, and involved in meetings. In addition to the slide presentation, there are also other images in this accession of students in wheelchairs in campus buildings and the measures implemented to assist them in elevators and bathrooms.

This accession consists of records generated by the College of Forestry which include brochures, correspondence, deeds and titles, historical essays, land acquisition and survey documentation, maps, newspaper clippings, posters, questionnaire materials, reports, studies, and two theses. In addition to pertaining to the acquisition and management of the Adair, Blodgett, and Spaulding forest tracts, these records also document T.J. Starker's employment with Oregon State, the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp at present-day Peavy Arboretum, long range forestry planning, and research in the McDonald-Dunn Forest. The maps document various aspects of the McDonald-Dunn Forest (including the areas of Peavy Arboretum and the Oregon Forest Nursery) such as land ownership, timber type, and timber quantity estimates. A map outlining where a Portland public high school project had planned to rehabilitate burned over areas in the Tillamook Forest was also found in this accession.

In addition to various images of identified and unidentified trees and forests, these photographs also depict pine needle and tree leaf studies, forested recreational areas, a bristlecone pine forest, lumber and other kinds of processed wood, and a slide presentation on the history of forestry in the U.S. Also included in this transfer are various images of trees donated to the University from Dendrologist Oliver Matthews. These photographs are accompanied by a letter from Matthews with further details about the images.

This accession is an addition to the Royal Jackson Papers consisting of research materials generated and collected by Jackson which include: annual reports, audio recordings, correspondence, maps, newspaper clippings, oral history transcripts, photographs, publications, research notes, and student papers. Primarily containing transcripts and recordings of interviews with College of Forestry faculty, students, and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) members stationed at Camp Arboretum, there were also a manuscript and research notes for Jackson's history of the McDonald-Dunn Forests found in this accession. The Photographs, numbering 18 prints, depict various views of the remnants of the CCC Camp (Camp Arboretum) at present-day Peavy Arboretum as well as portrait shots of Vernon McDaniels and CCC member Edward Sekermestrovich. The audio recordings consist of 16 cassette tapes.

There are 12 images pertaining to OSU and Corvallis, which include both exterior and interior shots of the Kidder Hall Library and Shepard Hall, the Memorial Union, a residence on 12th street, and performances in an unidentified theatre.

This accession consists of 30 hand rendered drawings for mechanical drawing classes taught between 1894 and 1908. Drawn and signed by three different students (Charles G. Porter, Jesse S. Gilkey, and Vernon W. Gilkey), these renderings depict a variety of geometric shapes and designs as well as pistons, bolts, gears, a wood turning lathe, a grindstone, and an automatic air brake for a train engine. Charles G. Porter received a degree in mechanical engineering in 1896. Jesse S. Gilkey graduated in 1909 with a degree in electrical engineering. Vernon Gilkey attended between 1904 and 1908, but took no degree.

Richard W. Gilkey graduated from Oregon State with a degree in education in 1951. From 1949 to 1951, he worked as a photographer for the Alumni Association magazine, The Oregon Stater.

This accession consists primarily of correspondence collected and generated by Botany Professor Albert Steward relating to his work as curator of the university Herbarium and instructor, identification of pine tree varieties, involvement in professional associations, and advisory work with students from China. Also included in this transfer are newspaper clippings and meeting notices for the Oregon State chapter of the Sigma Xi Honorary Society. One of clippings is an obituary for Celia Belle Steward, Albert's wife. Receiving a degree in agriculture from Oregon State in 1921, Albert N. Steward returned in 1951 to serve as curator of the college herbarium and Professor of Botany, posts he held until his death in 1959.

This accession consists of 7 scrapbooks assembled by Naval ROTC (NROTC) staff which pertain to various aspects of the NROTC program at OSU. Primarily made up of photographs, these scrapbooks also contain correspondence, newspaper clippings, and event programs. In addition to documenting routine training exercises, dress reviews, and ceremonial events, these scrapbooks also record NROTC social activities such as dances, picnics, athletic events, and university traditions such as the "Little Colonel" pageant. One of the scrapbooks offers a historical narrative of the program, which includes the original application to establish the unit in 1945 as well as correspondence and meeting minutes from that period.

This accession consists of photographs (12 B&W prints) collected by alumnus Paul Spillman that document his student years at Oregon State, work as an Extension agent, and position as a member of the Board of Directors of the Pacific Wool Growers association. In addition to a class reunion (fiftieth) group shot in 1957, the images pertaining to Oregon State include images of cadet formations (Spillman served as Captain of Company D), the Daily Barometer staff, and Spillman with other students at a dinner at the boarding house of Mrs. Cummings in Corvallis. Born in Portland, Paul H. Spillman graduated from Oregon State in 1907 with a degree in agriculture. After college, he worked as a wheat rancher, an Extension Agent for Union County, and served on the board of Directors of the Pacific Wool Growers association.

This accession consists of materials collected by Walter Russell which document his experience as a student at Oregon State and recognition as an alumnus. Included in this accession are a certificate, commencement programs, a diploma, photographs, newspaper clippings, report cards, and a belt buckle. In addition to one image of Russell as a student at the Homecoming bonfire, the photographs (5 prints in all) primarily depict Russell in group shots at alumni reunions. Born in Portland in 1902, Walter Russell graduated in 1927 with a degree in electrical engineering and was a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the honorary society for students in electrical engineering. He died in 1982.

This addition to the J. Ronald Miner Papers consists of records generated and collected by Bioresource Engineering Professor J. Ronald Miner and includes article reprints, certificates, correspondence, a diploma, employment records, grant proposals, photographs, publications, reports, research data and notes, and a plaque. In addition to documenting Miner's research activities, these records also reflect his role in providing expert testimony in legal cases regarding the environmental impact of livestock management facilities. Transcripts of Miner's testimony as well as accompanying correspondence and informational materials are included in these records. The photographs consist primarily of slides (about 160) depicting a tour of researchers from Pakistan (OIRD) led by Miner to various OSU facilities and around Oregon, a presentation on the history of Tualatin, and a slide show relating to Tillamook/odor control.

Trained in chemical engineering, Ronald Miner came to OSU in 1972 and served as Professor in the Bioengineering Department as well as chairman of the Agricultural Engineering Department for ten years. Specializing in the study of livestock waste management technology and odor control, Miner also served as the Extension Water Quality Coordinator for OSU. He died in 2004.

This accession consists of records generated by the OSU Student Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and includes account ledgers, correspondence, flyers, a guest book, meeting minutes, membership lists, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, and reports. Primarily pertaining to the activities of IEEE, these records also document the OSU Engineering Student Council and the student chapter of the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE). Numbering 48 images in all (26 negatives and 22 prints) the photographs depict various unidentified faculty members, a chapter event and group shot, a floor plan of a lecture hall in an unidentified building, and a shot of the service counter of the IEEE store. The 35mm negatives were found in an envelope labeled "Volume 3, Issue 1".

This accession consists of index cards tracking student pledges to the Memorial Union Capital Campaign. In addition to documenting the original amount pledged, these cards also contain handwritten notations of payments made as well as occasionally noting address changes. Dedicated "in memory of the heroic dead who gave their lives in their country's wars", the Memorial Union was completed in 1928.

This accession consists of records generated by the Linus Pauling Institute and includes correspondence, newsletters, meeting minutes, and publications. Primarily made up of records documenting donation activity to the Institute while located in California, there are also materials pertaining to marketing and media relations.

Established to research the function and role of micronutrients and phytochemicals in promoting optimum health and preventing and treating disease, the Linus Pauling Institute for Science and Medicine was established in California in 1973. Moving to OSU in 1996, the organization was renamed the Linus Pauling Institute. Linus Pauling, one of most influential scientists of the 20th century and the only person to be awarded two unshared Nobel prizes, graduated from OSU in 1922 with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering.

This accession consists of an addition to the Robert C. Wilson Papers of a photograph album with images taken by Wilson of Mechanical Engineering department machinery, classes, and facilities in what is currently Graf and Batcheller Halls. Included among the images are depictions of the tool room, the wood working laboratory, welding equipment, the iron foundry, and a boat building class. In addition to the scrapbook there is also biographical information collected from Wilson's funeral in 2004. Robert Claude Wilson taught in the Manufacturing Engineering Department from 1949 to 1980. He died in 2004.

About one third of these records were generated by the Agricultural Engineering Research Foundation and include annual reports, correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, research proposals, and various documentation collected in notebooks.

Alpha Phi Omega-OSU Chapter (MSS) NEW Collection

This accession consists of records generated and collected by the OSU chapter of the national service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega and includes annual reports, blank forms/stationary, certificates, completed membership/pledge forms, constitution and bylaws, correspondence, fiscal records, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, two scrapbooks, and a poster. Primarily documenting activities sponsored by the chapter such as the "Ugliest Man on Campus" (UMOC) contest, there are also a few items among these records relating to the Knights of Dunamis, the National Eagle Scout Honor Society. The loose photographs not in scrapbooks (63 negatives and 14 prints) mostly depict entries in the UMOC contest.

Established in 1925 as an auxiliary organization to the Boy Scouts of America, the national service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega had over 50 chapters at various campuses across the U.S. by 1968. Formed in 1946, the OSU Chapter (Delta Eta) disbanded for 5 years before being reinvigorated in 1981. In 1983 the chapter folded.

Hansen, Hugh J., Papers (MSS) NEW Collection

This accession consists of materials generated by and pertaining to Agricultural Engineering Department faculty member Hugh Hansen and includes correspondence, employment records, and photographs. The photographic images, roughly constituting 300 slides, prints, and negatives in total, make up the bulk of this accession. In addition to the slide presentation "wind power as an energy source" (which includes script and tape) there are also images of various agricultural machinery and equipment as well as several portrait shots of Hansen. Born in Minnesota in 1923, Hugh J. Hansen came to OSU in 1974 to assume the post of Manager of the Western Regional Agricultural Engineering Service and later, served in the position of Extension Energy and Agricultural Engineer. Briefly serving as acting head of the Agricultural Engineering Department in 1986, Hansen retired in 1990. He died in 2001.

Pertaining to Miner's research and instruction in the Agricultural Engineering Department, these materials include handouts and transparencies used in presentations and workshops. John Ronald Miner assumed the post of Associate Professor in the department of Agricultural Engineering in 1972. Specializing in the study of animal waste management and treatment, Miner has also been involved in international agricultural research including directorship of a project in Yemen in 1986. He died in 2004.

This accession is an addition to the Pete Smith Papers consisting of a scrapbook documenting the Horner Museum tour #62 "The Falls of the Willamette." Assembled by tour participant Elizabeth Russell, the scrapbook includes photographs of the tour, brochures on the Willamette Falls Locks and Oregon City, and two articles on Oregon City history. Led by Pete Smith and Jim Howland, the tour consisted of a river cruise from Portland to the Willamette Locks at Oregon City as well as an exploration of Oregon City's historic homes.

Chatter Club/Friendship Internationale Scrapbook (MSS) NEW Collection

This accession consists of a scrapbook assembled by members of the Chatter Club/Friendship Internationale which documents various activities and programs organized by the group. Primarily made up of newspaper clippings from the Corvallis Gazette-Times and The Barometer, the scrapbook also contained press releases, photographs, recipes, and a publication that were found loose in the pages as well as inside an envelope glued to the back cover. The photographs, numbering 6 prints, document various club events. Bylaws and historical information about the club are also included in the scrapbook.

Established in 1964, the Chatter Club (later known as Friendship Internationale) sought to promote interaction and exchange between unmarried foreign female students and the wives of international students and staff. Consisting of several informal interest groups (cooking sewing, English language practice, child care), the club's main activity involved the organization of events and programs. General membership meetings were held once a month. Although not an official organization of the university, the club received strong encouragement and secretarial assistance from the Office of International Education. In 1979, Friendship Internationale and another group, Crossroads, merged to form Crossroads International.

This accession is an addition to the Ellen Moore Papers consisting of materials generated and collected by alumna Ellen Moore. Primarily documenting Moore's employment as a paleontologist and interaction between family members as well as other fellow paleontologists, the items in this transfer include certificates, correspondence, employment records, greeting cards, newspaper clippings, photographs, work reports, and a scrapbook. The scrapbook, assembled by Moore's Grandfather Charles Edwin Partridge, documents Moore's childhood growing up in Portland, Oregon and covers the years 1925 to 1938, respectively. Containing images of Moore and various family members and friends, the scrapbook also includes artistic renderings, certificates, correspondence, greeting cards, grade reports, and newspaper clippings. The photographs (loose and not in the scrapbook) depict Ellen throughout her life and various members of her family. Ellen Moore graduated with a BA in Geology from Oregon State College in 1946 and worked as a Geologist for the U.S. Geological Survey from 1950 to 1987.

Irwin, Ruby Stafrin Scrapbook (MSS)NEW Collection

This accession consists of a scrapbook assembled by alumna Ruby Stafrin relating to her (and her sister Mildred's) experiences as a student at OSU. Primarily made up of photographs, the scrapbook also contains brochures for various campus events, commencement programs, dance cards, game programs, name tags, newspaper clippings, and a green freshman lid and ribbon. In addition to the documentation of Ruby and Mildred as students, the images also depict campus buildings and grounds, excursions to the Willamette and Mary's Rivers, classmates (most of which are identified), and various campus events such as the distribution of the yearbooks and the "burning of the green." There are also a few images of Ruby's parents and other members of the Stafrin or Irwin family.

Born in Dallas, Oregon, in 1904, Ruby Stafrin entered Oregon Agricultural College with her sister Mildred, in 1923. Enrolled in the three-year Pharmacy degree program, Ruby married fellow pharmacy student Andrew Irwin in her sophmore year. After graduation, Ruby, Andrew, and Mildred (who was also enrolled in the pharmacy program with Ruby) worked in the drug store established by Ruby's father in Dallas until their deaths.
