Agenda
- Safety Week Review
1. Safety Week Review :
The committee reviewed the library Safety Week during Sept 12-16
- Evacuation Drill
- Problem with the 1st floor Java 2 window looking like an exit. Possible solution: place an object in front of it.
- Only the fire dept clears the building. Need to correct procedures that say Campus Safety will do this.
- Only fire dept “white hats” can let people back inside.
- Avenue fire doors need signage to tell people they can push them over (“Push”)
- Some confusion on operating the megaphones and radios. Seems to be related to unfamiliarity with these devices.
- On east side of building, need to tell people to move to bell tower or Pharmacy building. Need to enforce 100 ft distance from the building.
- PA announcement can be difficult to hear over the alarms, but gives information that is useful (disabled, elevators).
- Some stairwell lights were out. Kerrie took care of this immediately.
- The building was cleared in about 4 minutes. Sufficient time period for a building our size.
- Fire extinguisher training went well. About 10 staff were present.
- Can do better with the safety display in the lobby.
- Survey results
- Safety tips emails were the most popular activity, though all were found to be useful
- Respondents were satisfied with the notification messages and do not want more “bells & whistles”
- Would like in-house CPR/First Aid courses during Safety Week
- Recommended encouraging departments to have their own safety meetings and to allow employees to attend activities. Agenda could include work-specific safety, first aid kits, evacuation routes, fire extinguisher locations, flashlight locations
- Recommended fire extinguisher locations on library floor plans but this should be through the individual departments (know where your fire extinguishers are)
