1. Earthquake Non-drill Review :

No drill was done in the library when the OSU campus-wide drill was announced via audix broadcast message because the right people were not present that day to set it in motion. It was agreed that we should have an earthquake drill immediately prior to the planned fire drill. Penny will resend the draft she and Laurel developed to announce the earthquake drill. It will be adapted to preface the fire drill information to be sent to all library building occupants.

2. Fire Drill Procedures

Group reviewed and approved the fire drill procedures drafted by Bryan and Faye. We would like the practice fire drill to be sometime during early afternoon on September 25; Faye will confirm that date with Catherine Murray-Rust and Jim Patton from the Corvallis fire department. Faye will send drill information to building occupations with details about what to expect and how to act. During the drill, we will use the newly purchased walkie talkies to determine their effectiveness.

3. Restoration Methods for Specialized Materials

Larry Landis had provided copies of restoration methods for specialized materials. Committee reviewed copies and agreed that methods should be incorporated into Unit 3, and Bryan will be asked to determine the best way to do that.

4. Archives Disaster Plan

Larry also provided disaster plan for Archives located in Kerr Administration Building. Committee had reviewed in advance and approved adding it to the Valley Library plan as a new section. Larry will revise the document and send us an updated version.

5. Library Disaster Plan

Storage Building priorities listed below were discussed and agreed upon; we will ask Bryan to add them to the plan. We also discussed the need for a priorities list from Special Collections; Lorraine will ask Cliff to develop one for inclusion in the Disaster Plan.

Faye asked if the disaster plan was final? Having heard nothing from the contacts, we assume it is. We need to assure that copies are distributed appropriately, specifically in the offices and homes of the University Librarian and building manager. (I suggest we add the sections mentioned here, send the additions to the contact list, and then verify that copies are where they need to be. -Lorraine)

Larry Landis provided copies of several "salvage at a glance" possibilities and suggested we consider adding something similar to our disaster plan. Lorraine will circulate to committee members for review and discussion at Oct 10 meeting. After a brief look, we agreed it would be a beneficial addition to the Disaster Plan and we at the meeting preferred the document Salvage at a Glance published in the WAAC newsletter. Further discussion and decision on Oct 10.

6. "The Complete Library Safety and Security Manual"

We discussed the two sections of The Complete Library Safety and Security Manual routed to committee during August for review. It was agreed that we did not need to purchase the manual for our library and that Lorraine would forward the Code of Conduct section to Catherine Murray-Rust with the committee's recommendation that our library consider developing a similar set of expectations for patrons.

7. Action Items
