1. Information Sharing :

Kerrie will be turning over her seat on the committee to Tara. Kerrie will still be serving as the committees LAMP Liaison but will not attend meetings.

2. Disaster Plan Updates/Sharing

The annual Disaster Plan revision is going smoothly. All revisions should be submitted to Bryan by Sept 1. Susan will create a list of flashlight locations.

3. Safety Week Planning

  • LAMP ok'd Safety Week during Sept 11-15 with the exception that there be no evacuation drill on Sept 11.
  • Bryan will send out an informational/resource email the week before Safety Week.
  • Bryan will contact James Mellein this week to schedule in-house First Aid/CPR training at the library. It will be scheduled for Tue, Wed or Thur.
  • Bryan will contact Jim Patton of the Corvallis fire dept about fire extinguisher training. It will be held on a Tue, Wed or Thur afternoon other than when the First Aid/CPR training is held. Kerrie checked with Valery King about inviting the OSU Campus community and she felt this was a good idea. We will do this through the OSU Today advertisement.
  • Tara and Susan will organize the daily informational quizzes and prizes. Dollar store safety-related prizes along with library reflectors.
  • Tara and Bryan will coordinate the OSU Today advertisement including info about fire extinguisher training.
  • Penny and Bryan will coordinate a safety display for the library lobby using resources from Campus Safety and the Fire Department.

4. Web Site Review

It was noted that the Safety Website can be difficult to find. Also, the site has two links on the library intranet index page, one for the home page and one for the committee page. Changes will be made and the site will be advertised once again during Safety Week. Improvements are still welcome.

5. Emergency Procedures Review

Bryan noted that an ULLIA workgroup is combining public service desk information into a shared resource. This will include emergency procedures.

6. Fire Doors Signage

If we continue with this idea, Printing and Mailing will need to create "Push" signage for the fire doors. Bryan will check on a cost for this.

7. First Aid Kits

Tara volunteered to maintain the staff room first aid kit on a quarterly basis.

8. Misc.

  • The library may want to consider AED's (Automated External Defibrillator) again as more OSU buildings are purchasing them.
  • JoLynn was going to inquire about placing evacuation route signage next to the emergency phones in the stairwells.
  • Tara/Kerrie will check on getting a key(s) for the fire extinguisher cases and possibly small hammers to break the glass. We have neither at this time.
  • Kerrie shared an idea to have a contact list at the public services desk which would be taken by a staff member during an evacuation to use outside the building.
  • The minor problem of foreign students leaving through emergency exits was discussed. It is felt that this happens because the students do not understand the term Emergency Exit and only see the word Exit. Kerrie has spoken with ELI and International Students to provide an explanation in their training. It was also suggested that international signage be used. Since it is a minor problem at this point no further action will be taken.

Next meeting Sept 6, 2006.
