3. Safety Week Proposal

The committee would like to sponsor a library building Safety Week during September 12-16. The idea is to provide training and information during one week to focus library building staff attention on safety and security issues. Activities include:

  • Fire extinguisher training
  • First aid/CPR training information through Dixon Recreation Center
  • Evacuation drill
  • Anti-theft signage/information
  • Safety/security lobby display (continued through beginning of fall term)
  • Ergonomics classes information through Dixon Recreation Center
  • Email general information like library safety intranet information, equipment checklists, general info
  • Daily quiz/information with prizes on safety/security issues
  • Advertising by email, Library This Week and the in-service day
  • Post-survey to assess success of the event
  • Include Campus Safety, State Police and Fire/Emergency resources
  • Bryan will speak with Lorraine about presenting the proposal to LAMP

4. Kiosk Floor Plan Fire Extinguisher Symbols

  • Kerrie suggested we place fire extinguisher symbols on the kiosk floor plans so patrons are aware of their location
  • Kerrie will check with Karyle for approval

5. First Aid/CPR Approval Form

  • Kerrie presented a First Aid/CPR Training sign-up form. All felt it would be very useful in helping staff take advantage of this skill and the Safety Committee in keeping track of certified staff.
  • Interested staff will fill out the form and send it to Bryan who will arrange for the class and have Dixon notify us if the training was completed. Bryan will keep an updated list of certified staff and post them on the intranet, provide departments with the list and beginning in Sept, post them in first aid kits.

6. Alarm Drill Schedule

The committee agreed that annual alarm drills during Safety Week (if approved) would be appropriate. The focus is on staff knowledge and skills rather than patrons in the building (Campus Safety/emergency personnel does the building clearance).

7. Action Items

  • Members will review and revise Disaster Recovery Plan manual. Bryan will provide information and contacts needed.
  • Bryan will speak to Lorraine about the library Safety Week proposal to LAMP
  • Kerrie will check with Karyle on placing fire extinguisher symbols on the kiosk floor plans and implement if approved
  • Bryan will be the point person for first aid/cpr training and Kerrie will update the form with revisions
