1. Emergency Exit Alarms :

  • A solution was sought for emergency exit alarms which are accidentally activated by library patrons. Kerrie noted that recently these incidents have been associated with foreign students – possible communication problem with exit signage.
  • Kerrie will contact Connect, the International Student Association and ELI about adding information about exit signage to their student tours/orientations.

2. Safety Events

  • Discussion of activities/events that the committee is associated with. Worked on creating an annual schedule to help focus activities/events.
  • Penny suggested a Safety Week to focus staff on safety-related issues. The committee agreed that the 1st or 2nd week of September would be ideal. Events/activities could include:
    • Fire extinguisher training (through fire dept)
    • First aid/CPR training (through Dixon Recreation Center)
    • Evacuation drill (through fire dept)
    • General safety/security information email reminder
    • Ergonomics (through Dixon)
    • Anti-theft signage/information
    • Flashlight batteries/first aid kit replacements and updates
    • Emergency equipment check and battery replacement (megaphone, radio, 2-way radio’s)
  • The committee will discuss details in early summer.

3. Other Activities

  • Kerrie will send Nitrile gloves to departments to place in their first aid kits. The current latex gloves can cause allergic reactions.
  • Kerrie suggested we place the names of current first aid/cpr trained staff in the first aid kits.
  • The library may want to focus on having at least one staff member first aid/cpr trained during evenings and weekends.
  • Will the committee be responsible for reviewing the Disaster Plan this year? Lorraine?
  • Library emergency procedures will need to be reviewed this summer.
  • Kerrie suggested that more information about accident forms/procedures be provided to staff.

4. Action Items
