- Action Items
1. Review of Action Items :
- Penny presented information on Public Access Defibrillation. She recommended that using such a device would require a M.D. to prescribe one for the library building as well as training needs among library staff. She noted that this was probably not worth pursuing and committee members agreed. Bryan will give the information to Lorraine for review.
- Faye has not been able to contact Bryan McCampbell as of yet but will continue trying. Bryan has been known to still do ergonomic inspections and may continue to do so. The committee will assume Bryan is the contact for ergonomic inspections until Faye is able to clarify.
- Faye noted that she will be introducing the new office specialist at the next meeting who will be working with Kevin Bokay. Faye will be working in Archives full-time. Faye expects the new employee to be a member of the committee though Faye would be willing to continue also if needed.
2. Pizza Date
- The committee decided that Thursday, March 20, at noon, would be the best time to use the gift certificate at American Dream Pizza. Members also recommended that we invite others as there will be more than enough pizza (like staff at the Ref and Circ public service desks who help with emergency situations). Extra pizza could also be brought back to the library to share. Of course, invitations will be given to former members Valerie King, Karen Russ and Larry Hammond.
- It was also decided that this day would be fine to have the next meeting from 2-3 pm.
3. Code of Conduct
The committee approved the current draft of the library Code of Conduct for further review by others. A few editorial changes will be made. Bryan will make the corrections and send to Lorraine for further review.
4. PA Announcements for Protecting Patron Personal Valuables
It was suggested that the Circ desk make PA announcements reminding patrons to not leave personal items unattended when we know someone is actually stealing items in the library. This stems from a night last week when two patrons came to the Circ desk reporting theft and it was decided to make an announcement to help prevent more thefts. The committee thought this was a good idea and an announcement statement will be presented for review and placed next to the PA system upon approval.
5. Sign Stands in Library Lobby Entrance/Exit
Laurel suggested the sign stands in the library entrance/exit lobby may be an obstruction during an emergency. Patrons leaving the building could knock them over and begin tripping over them. Laurel will speak to Catherine Murray-Rust about this.
6. Training for Library Staff
- No one from the committee attended the recent conference on security & disruptive patron issues. Laurel will speak with Corrine who did attend the workshop to see if she has any information to share. Laurel will also speak to Lorraine about the program.
- It was suggested that the committee review past opportunities for CPR and first aid training for library staff. Do we want to begin setting up opportunities and what is the current status of library staff performing CPR and first aid in the legal sense? Agenda for next meeting.
7. Action Items
- Bryan will give Lorraine Public Access Defibrillation information
- Faye will continue trying to contact Bryan McCampbell for ergonomic inspection information
- Bryan will make code of conduct corrections and send to Lorraine for others to review
- Bryan will provide a statement for patrons to protect their personal items in the library and send to committee by email for review
- Laurel will speak to Catherine about the sign stands in the main entrance lobby
- Laurel will speak with Corrine and Lorraine about Security Issues & Disruptive Patron training
Next Meeting, March 20th, 2-3 pm
